Art Collection Inventories
An inventory entails going through a collection wall-to-wall, item by item and developing and recording a unique object's catalog/inventory number, taking photographs, stating type of object (e.g. painting, sculpture, or any other kind of artifact), title, artist, medium, dimensions, and providing a short description of each object, its location, and general condition. BPart is able to customize the inventory number to include any previous numbering systems, codes or abbreviations in adherence to the numbering standards as established by the American Association of Museums; and also, scanning and recording signatures, inscriptions, labels and full provenance information. These listings can then be arranged by location, catalog/accession number, object type or condition.
The most frequently asked questions during the cataloguing procedure are: What is the art work? What is it made of? What are the dimensions? Where did it come from? What culture or individual has produced it? How is it made/fabricated? What is its use/function? What is its history? When was it made? How has it been acquired and when?
